Maxie's Supper Club
I've never been to Louisiana, but I have had really excellent cajun-creole food. The last two times I've driven across the country, I stopped in Little Rock, Arkansas. Both times I was fortunate enough to have some really delicious and authentic Louisiana specialties. You can imagine my surprise, though, when I found really great cajun-creole food in upstate New York.
The place? Maxie's Supper Club. A super cute restaurant in what looks like a converted house. They have cozy outdoor seating and live music most nights of the week.
The food? They call themselves a New Orleans-style fish house. They have jambalaya and southern-style cornbread, gumbo and shrimp and grits. It's good, honest southern food.
When I visited Maxie's, I ordered the Vegetarian Jambalaya with smoked tofu, pecans, spinach, and red beans with creole rice. It was scrumptious.
My mom ordered the salmon special which came with green beans and their wonderful cheesy grits. Deeeelicious.
The whole experience was really fun and interesting. If you happen to be in the Ithaca, NY area, I would definitely recommend Maxie's. It's a tasty and lively restaurant.
